Since 1925 Texas State has recognized outstanding and accomplished student “favorites” through the Gaillardian Award. The name is derived from the native Texas wildflower, gaillardia, Texas State's "school flower." The campus-wide election selects 12 finalists from 150 candidates, nominated from their respective school, club or organization. The award was established by the editors of the Pedagog, the university's former yearbook, and is presented to students during homecoming.
